City of St. Albert Fowler Athletic Field

Project Location: City of St. Albert

SolidEarth was part of the consulting team that was retained in 2019 by the City of St. Albert to establish the rehabilitation strategy of the existing Fowler Athletic facility.  With the facility being over 40 years old, the City was planning to rehabilitate the following areas to make it more current and address some safety concerns: existing rubberized running track, the existing timber retaining wall, and the asphalt paved service trail.

SolidEarth completed the geotechnical evaluation of the site in two stages.  First, a geotechnical desktop assessment was completed to determine the main areas of concern within each section and the potential causes for any distresses observed.

The findings of the geotechnical desktop assessment were complemented by a detailed geotechnical investigation.  The main challenge encountered during this phase was to complete the geotechnical investigation without damaging the existing track so it could continue to be available for recreational use.  SolidEarth used a low-pressure drill equipment to advance the boreholes and salvaged the synthetic surface for re-use following coring operations.
